WordPress has Evolved

February 26th, 2009

It has been quite a long time since I’ve looked at the software behind WordPress, the blogging platform that’s been behind mcw since the beginning.

When I installed the latest version for this latest flop of mcw, I noticed it had an “upgrade” button.  Now mind you, I’ve grown used to upgrading wordpress through the usual download latest, backup everything, delete only these files, ftp the new files up to your server, run the upload script, make sure all plugins and my theme were compatible, etc, etc.etc….

The other day I checked to see if the software needed to be upgraded.  It did.  What the heck.  Expecting full chaos, I clicked the upgrade button and about 30 seconds later, everything was done.

wow.

Beats the heck out out of the usual thirty minute upgrade process, eh?

I’ve retired to using the rich text editor, as well.  I used to be hard core about using the html editor in WordPress.  In fact, in the early versions, that was the only option.  Eventually a plugin came long that allowed rich text editing, but it was so buggy to not even mess with.

I was taken aback by the whole different layout, too.  Very clean, full of ajax, and extremely fast with Turbo enabled (uses Google gears).

The current theme I’m using is kinda ugly, so I’m sure I’ll be tweaking/changing/adding/subtracting/breaking/etc.

God help me, I’m catching the bug again…
