Easy Preserving: Carrots… what’s up doc?

March 29th, 2009

I like to do home preserving.  As I don’t have a lot of time, I tend to “piece-meal” or spread the steps out over a few days, sometimes even a week or two.

Seeing as yesterday was the perfect day to stay inside and do something worthwhile, I decided to finish preserving, in this case home-canning 6 lbs of carrots I recently bought for a good price at Warehouse Market.

A lot of people shy away from home-canning as it involves a lot of time and work.  Indeed, it does, but the savings in preserving your own food can be significant, especially when your dad gives you half the bounty of his green bean crop every year.  :) Read more…

Water Source for Community Gardens

March 28th, 2009

The My Tulsa World blog makes a good point about how folks should be cautious when watering a community garden which the Tulsa City Council just addressed recently.  Seems your agreement with the city of Tulsa when you get water service prohibits you from re-selling or using the water anywhere other than the premises where the service was purchased.

I’ve come up with some ideas that could help those that have this issue. Read more…

March 28th, 2009

Something about trees with flowers and leaves on them covered in snow that reminds me I live in Oklahoma.

Irritating City of Tulsa Budget Cuts

March 24th, 2009

Ah yes..  The mayor would like us to provide input into how we can save money…

Don’t get me started, Mayor.

Irritated Tulsan has a funny post which he claims I assisted in co-authoring.  I did, but he cut the suggestion I had about using waste copier paper for toilette paper instead of the real stuff.  Jerk.

Go give him your suggestions.  I’ve decided to direct you over there so you can do just that.  However, there is only one stipulation.  The comments on his post must make me laugh so hard, I go pee pee.

May I have a bite?

March 21st, 2009

My youngest was chowing down on a cereal bar earlier today.
It was apple and cinnamon. It really looked yummy.

I asked her if I could try a bite.

“No, daddy, but you can have the wrapper!”

She hands me the wrapper.

I look at it.
She smiles very cutely.

I put the wrapper in my mouth and start chewing on it very thoughtfully.

I say, “Tastes like chicken. Does yours taste like chicken?”
Youngest stares at me with an amused look on her face.

We all laugh.

From My Collection Music Video

update: youtube video seemed to be unavailable for some reason. found another and inserted that one, instead. (youtube has been having serious embed issues lately…)

This Saturday comes, I believe, the only music video ever made by Circle of Dust.  Circle of Dust was a Christian industrial rock band started in New York.  Apparently they disbanded in 1998 and lead singer, Scott Albert went on to form Celldweller.

The video is Telltale Crime.  I believe it was originally on an album (or another band entirely) entitled Mindwarp (1992) and then released again on Brainchild by Circle of Dust in 1994.  I don’t know.  It all gets confusing.

The song, Telltale Crime, talks about economic disaster, one world government, govt deficits, etc.  I only recently noticed how relevant the song is to today’s climate.  It has a mixture of industrial and thrash metal seemingly combined.  Klayton’s rough, yet melodic voice belts out the lyrics with precision that even unseasoned metal heads can understand.  Video and lyrics after the jump. My Spending vs Federal Spending

March 20th, 2009
Comments Off

Why is there no requirement that the federal government cannot have debt?  Isn’t the City like this?  Seriously, what’s the deal?  This idiot Obama administration is going to generate $9.3 TRILLION worth of debt in the next 10 years ON OUR BEHALF.  I can’t even start to understand a number that large.  I’m starting to really get riled up about this. Random Inspirational Video

March 18th, 2009

When my life started funneling down into hell a couple of years ago, one of the first positive steps I took to brace myself was to get away from the negative music that only perpetuated the feelings of hopelessness, low self-esteem, and impending feelings of doom.

I’m not saying the music I was listening to was bad, per se, but it certainly did not lift me up or make me feel any better and this is likely just a step that helped me more personally than it could have helped somebody else. I heard this song on 102.3 about two years ago and despite the fact that I wasn’t really into rock/pop back then, it really lifted me up and gave me hope.  And yes, I was disappointed a few days ago when my clock radio came on and I heard KRMG instead of music.  :)

How do you define marriage?

March 17th, 2009

WND reports that the Merriam-Webster dictionary has altered its definition of the word marriage:

Main Entry:

1 a (1): the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2): the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage <same-sex marriage> b: the mutual relation of married persons : wedlock c: the institution whereby individuals are joined in a marriage2: an act of marrying or the rite by which the married status is effected ; especially : the wedding ceremony and attendant festivities or formalities3: an intimate or close union <the marriage of painting and poetry — J. T. Shawcross>

I looked around for more examples of this. Read more…
